Rita Walters is a senior executive with broad domestic experience in finance and fundraising. After spending 13 years in Accounting in NYC/NJ, she landed her first role in the non-profit sector as the Special Events Manager for Baltimore Reads, a leader in adult literacy in Maryland before quickly moving onto fundraising leadership roles in the region. She has a heart for social justice and has also cultivated a lifelong interest in writing. She has served effectively both as a trustee/director in the not-for-profit sector for arts and social justice organizations, including The Contemporary Museum, Convergence Center for Policy Resolution and The Foundation for Educational Excellence.
Ms. Walters currently serves as Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations for Union Theological Seminary in New York City. After two decades of living and working in Baltimore for educational, religious and non-profit institutions, first Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Maryland, The Baltimore Presbytery, Johns Hopkins University followed by senior leadership roles at Washington National Cathedral,Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and leading the silent phase of the campaign at MICA while accomplishing record setting goals, she was recruited to Catholic Charities of Maryland as the inaugural Chief Development Officer where she increased revenue by 20% within her first
year before landing her dream role at Union.
As a volunteer, she currently serves as resident senior advisor for Visions 2030, an evolving organization harnessing the artistic imagination to create new paradigms and new models of society. Ms. Walters holds a B.S. in Accounting from Fairleigh Dickinson University, studied at Wroxton College in the United Kingdom. She also holds a graduate certificate in Non-Profit Studies from the Institute for Policy Studies Center for Civil Society and a Masters of Liberal Arts both from Johns Hopkins University.
She and her husband, Troy (an accountant) currently live in NYC and Baltimore after many years in New Jersey. Their two adult children, Chaz and Chandler and two grand dogs, Barry Allen and LJ are all residents of Baltimore.
